As a producer and on-air talent for her weekly shows on 710 ESPN LA's The Experience and Radio Disney's Playground, she covers compelling stories of athletes making a difference off the courts, courageous people changing their communities and events that empower and unite.
Cusack is an extremely strategic professional that creates and implements career and public service opportunities as the Director of Community Affairs for the Southern California Broadcasters Association. She facilitates job training workshops, professional networking and diversity outreach programs that serve as a catalyst to educate and provide career assistance to job seekers and industry leaders. LaFern also heads the public service program that connects nonprofits with local radio and television stations that are part of a community of broadcasters that are dedicated to help raise millions of dollars for local charities, donate public service announcement airtime for thousands of worthy causes and provide programming important to the people in their broadcast area.
She has been recognized numerous times for her talent and commitment. Cusack was the recipient of the Alliance for Women in Media (AWM) Southern California Chapters Tracey Miller Merit Award for positive contributions and outstanding commitment to the broadcasting industry and several AWM BELL Awards (Bringing Excellence to the Local Level) which includes National Rising Star, Outstanding Fundraising-Financial and Outstanding Public Outreach. Los Angeles Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa also recognized her outstanding community service at the Environmental Youth Conference.
Cusack dedicates much of her time and expertise toward positively impacting her community. She has been involved with several philanthropic causes dedicated to health and education. She has volunteered for several nonprofits and community service groups such as the Glaucoma Research Foundation, Jason David's Corner Foundation, Lullalee's Literacy For Children and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Cusack has served on the board of directors for the Alliance for Women in Media SoCal Chapter and currently PIRATES (Print Interactive Radio and Television Educational Society). She is also a member of the Screen Actors Guild, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and Actors Equity Association.
In her secret life as a wannabe techie and gadget expert, she spends months trying to resolve applications errors. She is six months into her current tech project which is creating a wireless home networking connection that incorporates Sony's PS3, DIRECTV, DROID Global and Windows 7.
LaFern Cusack currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband William and pet rock Sully.
